What is PTT?

Instant Communication Push-to-Talk (PTT) is a half-duplex communication technology allowing instant voice messaging on the push of a button. It is one-to-one and one-to-many communication; one talks and the other(s) listen(s). With this communication style one is “always on” – there is no need to dial a number and wait for the other person to pick up.

Originally this technology was used by land mobile radios a.k.a. walkie talkies. However, these days, as smartphones and mobile networks have evolved and become more reliable, private and professional PTT communication is moving to 3G, 4G, LTE and Wi-Fi.

Mission Critical (MC) Communication is supplied by special communications systems where the reliability, availability, stability and security of mobile communication is vital to ensure continuous availability of functions critical for society. Typical users of mission critical communication are law enforcement and emergency services for public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) operations. For these users, push-to-talk is one of their most important tools for mission critical communication.

The main challenge for technology companies is to provide a seamless transition from limited but reliable radio networks to the versatility of IP and the internet of things, without changing the user habits.

Launching in 2019 this handheld device will run any PTT app directly loaded onto the speaker-microphone and connects directly to a wireless network. This eliminates the need for smartphones, Radios and Bluetooth all together, takes full advantage of Mobile Broadband while maintaining decades of grown user habits. And it is capable of maintaining critical communications, even when commercial networks fail due to natural or terrorist catastrophes.
