Learn more about PTT over IP, Mission Critical Communication and how AINA fits in
Push-to-Talk (PTT) is a half-duplex communication technology allowing instant voice messaging on the push of a button. It is one-to-one and one-to-many communication; one talks and the other(s) listen(s). With this communication style one is “always on” – there is no need to dial a number and wait for the other person to pick up.
Originally this technology was used by land mobile radios a.k.a. walkie talkies. However, these days, as smartphones and mobile networks have evolved and become more reliable, private and professional PTT communication is moving to 3G, 4G, LTE and Wi-Fi.
Today, users can simply download a walkie-talkie style app to their mobile phones and communicate with users around the world.
Mission Critical (MC) Communication is supplied by special communications systems where the reliability, availability, stability and security of mobile communication is vital to ensure continuous availability of functions critical for society. Typical users of mission critical communication are law enforcement and emergency services for public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) operations. For these users, push-to-talk is one of their most important tools for mission critical communication.
The technology trend is now to combine other existing technologies into a versatile and wearable solution that increases the efficiency of communication and the safety of individuals and society as a whole. The main challenge for technology companies is to provide a seamless transition from limited but reliable radio networks to the versatility of IP and the internet of things, without changing the user habits.
Even though smartphones can run versatile applications, switching from walkie-talkies to PTT smartphone apps is not enough – smartphones are fragile and impossible to use in many critical situations, and users cannot always look at and operate touchscreens. In practice they are of little use for public safety officials or lone workers, because their job requires them to stay hands free.
With this in mind, AINA Wireless aims to drive the convergence of walkie-talkie radios with modern mobile broadband technology by developing rugged and loud wireless communication devices specially designed for mission critical PTT over IP. We take something old and make it new.
AINA’s products combine grown user habits and practicality with the versatility of modern communication and information technology. By paying close attention to every detail within the mechanical design, hardware and software development, and production process of the company’s products, AINA assures high quality devices to its users.
The AINA PTT Voice Responder serves as a market introduction for a new form of PTT devices developed for versatile IP-based communication, and high-end public safety grade communication devices made in Finland. The device is not only durable with an IP65 and military grade standards, but also adaptable to several situations with the buttons that it features and its audio quality.
AINA Wireless is further developing a market-disrupting device that combines the resilience of a Tetra Radio with the versatility of smart technology: The MC PTT Communicator. Launching in 2018 this handheld device will run any PTT app directly loaded onto the speaker-microphone and connects directly to a wireless network. This eliminates the need for smartphones, Radios and Bluetooth all together, takes full advantage of Mobile Broadband while maintaining decades of grown user habits. And it is capable of maintaining critical communications, even when commercial networks fail due to natural or terrorist catastrophes.
